Spiritual Sound’s Divinity Series Cables by Rob Dockery

Hello Everyone! Rob Dockery, your resident computer audio explorer, here! I am introducing you to a company named Spiritual Sound. The scope of this review will cover my experience with their Divinity Series USB Cable, Ethernet Cable, Power Cable, and XLR cable offerings. This entire loom presents a unique balance between price/performance. Spiritual Sound takes pride in its build quality, material selection, and cable geometry. We will go into some specifics on the decisions made (especially regarding their short-range network cable). Additionally, it would be best not to confuse Spiritual Sound with the audio brand Spiritual Audio from some time ago. The two have no affiliation with each other.

Let us begin with some background on material selection. Spiritual Sound uses pure silver conductors in all of its cables. Various cable lengths are available. Silver gets a bad reputation among some audiophiles for being “bright”; others like it for its ability to add energy in the higher frequencies and for increased damping, resulting in greater bass authority and control. I have personally heard of silver cable ranging from popular AliExpress budget silver cabling (usually called Sterling Silver, which is not the purest silver) to top-tier pure silver cabling. There is a marked difference in cable sound quality across various quality levels, and Spiritual Sound delivers gobs of information, clarity, control, and extension.

One of my favorite demo tracks is 88 Basie Street – Sunday at the Savoy. This slow, melodic, dynamic track brings an undeniable groove to the table, one worthy of a slow, swinging bop. This track has gobs of midrange information that I was curious to explore, so that you will hear recurring references back to this song and other tracks from the 88 Basie Street album. More recently, I have introduced more Paco de Lucia/Al Di Meola/John McLaughlin (The Guitar Trio), Bon Iver, Gregory Porter, and LCD Soundsystem to the general listening and demo-track mix.

First, I tried the Spiritual Sound LAN – Divinity Series cable to replace a cable I had been exploring in my system for several months. Swapping out my existing cable for the Divinity Series cable set set the review off on a very positive note. There had been a slight edginess to the Sound that I could not pinpoint. The Divinity series LAN cable removed most of that edginess, added beautiful midrange, and increased top-end air in a refined way. One would describe the impact of adding this cable as an undeniable step up in listening pleasure. This silver cable did not sound bright or void of midrange richness. It was richer, more unveiled, more transparent, and smoother than what it replaced. The sax on 88 Basie Street’s – Contractor’s Blue” absolutely shone with this cable in my chain. You get more wind and texture with this cable.

Moving on to the Divinity Series power cable, this one was very interesting. I had been very impressed with my reference PC on my dac, but Cameron, the Spiritual Sound owner, suggested I try PC on my preamp, so I did not immediately take his advice and tried it on my dac. The results were an increase in overall energy and excitement, without added grain. This was a sound I had not heard before. The energy and lack of veil were the main selling points here. There was added clarity to the guitar plucks in La Estiba – (Paco de Lucía, John McLaughlin & Al Di Meola), and some added PRAT. This was one wonderful PC for those looking to inject some excitement with none of the attributed downsides (no grain, edginess). One would need to factor this into the existing character of their system. I haven’t tried this cable on my preamp, and I expect it would have been great in that position, given the recommendation, but time did not permit. I am in touch with Cameron and exploring ways to save up to purchase this cable for my main system. It will serve as a versatile, exciting, refined, and explosive cable in any position. I must hear it on my preamp at some point in the future.

Tweekgeek2017.gifMoving on to the Divinity Series USB cable, I did not hear it directly connected to my DAC due to its length, but I was able to compare it to my reference USB cable feeding my DDC, which I reintroduced to my chain specifically for this review. The Divinity Series USB cable is an ever-so-slightly softer version of my reference cable. One would describe this cable as transparent and smooth, but not overly hell-bent on extracting the utmost detail from the Sound, though it isn’t lacking in the detail department. This was probably the most difficult cable to review, since I did not get to hear it alone in the digital signal path. I will be mindful not to draw a lengthy conclusion here; other than that, it is a solid option that appears to present itself with refinement and authority.

Now I’m moving on to the XLR cable. Again, Pure silver, but this time with a Helix geometry. Introducing this cable to my system was eye-opening. I had suspected my XLR cable between my dac and preamp was my endgame cable until now. My immediate reaction was one of shock. This Spiritual Sound cable completely opened up the soundstage. I looked up at what seemed to be an increase in vertical dispersion. There was an undeniable increase in channel separation and further reduction in grain. I had to have this cable. Listening to Bon Iver’s track Holocene is a great way to analyze the spatial resolution of your system, since it contains so much information, with more layers and detail than ever before. This cable had to be mine when funds allow. I haven’t tried it between the preamp and amp yet, but I expect it will work well there as well.

In summary, Spiritual Sounds presents a strong suite of products to the audio community. Not heavily driven by marketing but fueled by a pure desire to bring joyful Sound to your ears. I enjoyed hearing every single one of these cables. You should give them a try.

Happy listening, all!
