Spent a
lot of time in the Music Culture Tech (MC) room enjoying the
sound of this new electronics and speaker company from
Germany. Former MBL prez Wolfgang Meletzky has set out to
match the sonics of his previous partners at a fraction of
the cost. Take the MC 331 loudspeaker for example, here's a
three-way that demonstrated great control and ease on
Estate
by Brazilian jazz pianist and beauty Eliane Elias from her
Bossa Nova Stories CD.
Mike Oltz, of Xtreme Fidelity, a
northern NJ dealer has an entire arsenal of MC gear in one
of his huge demo rooms and has invited me out for a
listening session. My time here was so enjoyable, I'll take
that as an offer I can't refuse.

Designer
Kevin Hayes of VAC is shown posing besides his new Sigma
160i Integrated amplifier ($9,990).

The Sigma 160i's performance was
absolutely fantastic when paired with the ridiculously
affordable and wonderful sounding Tannoy DC10T loudspeaker
($7k). Before knowing the price of these dual concentric
floor-standers, I presumed the price at or around $30k-ish
(guess I've become conditioned to believe if it's big, bold
and beautiful...it's expensive).

Fritz
Speakers, Modwright, Zesto Audio and Wywires put on a great
demo that would make any music lover on budget happy. The
Fritz Speakers Rev 5 monitors were favorably
reviewed by our own Frank Alles, who really liked them on
tubes. Though, these were the less expensive Carbon 7s
($1750), after a short session via a Zesto Audio Andros
phonostage ($3900), spinning Sonny Rollin's classic
version of Alfie
on a Thorens TD309 'table, I got a good idea of what Frank
liked so much about the Rev 5s. Preamp and amplifier were by
Modwright (LS100 and KWA150). Zesto Audio's designer
George Counnas served as resident DJ, making it quite
difficult to leave the room. The slick looking equipment
rack caught my eye. It's made by Steve Blinn Designs while cables through and through,
AC cords included were
by Wywire.
